Flab or Fab?

A journey towards better health.

Awesome Workout!

I was rather dreading my workout today.  I don’t know why I keep feeling that way when afterwards, I always feel terrific.  I need to remember how I feel when I’m finished and hold on to that feeling.  Yay for endorphins!

I was weighed again today.  I only lost 1 pound this past week, but at least I’m moving in the right direction.  I missed 2 workouts though, so it’s my own fault.  But I’m determined to get back into the swing of things.

My meals have been really good.  I had that minor slip-up last week with the Halloween candy and the PMS tootsie rolls, but other than that — I’ve been awesome.  I’ve been taking my nutritionist’s advice and keeping fruit and veggies handy to snack on.  I’ve also been incorporating some form of protein into every snack or meal.

After I go to the grocery store, I cut up melons and stick the pieces in a glass bowl covered with plastic wrap.  I put several toothpicks in the pieces so it’s easy to snack on.  I think the preparation time is a big reason that people don’t eat more fruit.  It’s much faster and easier to grab a bag of chips than to wash and peel or cut up a piece of fruit.

I’ve also taken to washing grapes and leaving them in a bowl on the counter.  My entire family ends up munching on them instead of the less healthy items.

It all comes down to visibility and convenience.

Falling Off the Face of the Earth. . .

No, I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth.  I’ve actually been unable to update my blog because I’m buried under something heavy.  Nevermind that I’m actually buried under a mountain of laundry and clutter because my house is a wreck.

In all honestly, I’ve been pretty good so far.  I think I’ve gotten into a regular routine of eating smaller meals more frequently.  In fact, I noticed that when I made fajitas the other day, I could only eat one and I was STUFFED.  This is a good sign.

I’ve still been going to the gym regularly, although I did miss last Wednesday because I had to be at my son’s school and had work-related issues.  I also missed Monday’s workout because I was asked at the last minute to chaperone a field trip.  I felt really bad about missing my workout that day, but I think I more than made up for it during the fieldtrip.

Not only did I run after a large group of fourth-graders, but I also danced a reel with them (like they did in the 1800s) and I played Hopscotch and Simon Says.  I swear, those kids made me bend down and touch my toes and then jump up and down about a million times.  I’m actually sore from all the insanity.  But it was fun and I got to spend some quality time with my son.

I am planning on going to the gym tomorrow and they’re going to be weighing me again.  I’m not really looking forward to that because I don’t think I’ve lost any additional weight.  I don’t think I’ve gained anything either though, so that’s probably good.

I need to just get back into the swing of things and refocus my efforts again on weight loss.  I’ve been good, but I need to do BETTER.  I need to work out more and be more active.

And I need to post more regularly. . .

NO EXCUSES!  I *AM* going to do this.

ALL OF THIS.

I survived!

I survived Halloween!!!  Unfortunately, there were a few minor bumps in the road.

I ended up skipping the gym on Wednesday.  Between problems with work and a crazy schedule at my son’s school — I just couldn’t make it.  Although, it may be that my body needed the break.  My knees feel a LOT better today and I’m all jazzed up and ready to go to they gym this morning.

I only ate two small pieces of Halloween candy on Halloween!  What was weird about it though was that it didn’t satisfy my sweet craving.  I ended up pitching the last half of my miniature Milky Way (courtesy of my son’s Trick-or-Treating) and got a handful of grapes instead.

Unfortunately, PMS decided to set in the next day and I alternated between intense chocolate and salt cravings.  I ate three Tootsie Rolls and I DON’T EVEN REALLY LIKE TOOTSIE ROLLS!

I crawled in bed and pulled the covers over my head and begged my husband to take the candy away and hide it from me.  He did and I’m so thankful!  If I don’t see it, I’m okay.  And my chocolate cravings are usually satisfied by a Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Granola Bar.

Have any of you tried these granola bars?!?!  Our Nutritionist recommended them because of the high fiber content and the fact that they have protein in them.  THEY ARE AMAZING!  I’m completely and totally in love with them.

Now that I’ve gotten past my little bumps, I’m ready to get back to really working on my health.  I’m going to the gym to get weighed today (not looking forward to that because of the PMS issue – ugh), but I’m not going to let it deter me.  I’m already feeling better overall and THAT is what matters — not the digits on the scale.
